Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II (Xbox 360)

Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II (Xbox 360)

In a nutshell:
Real-time strategy games are not normally the sort of thing you see on a console but EA have pulled out all the stops to make The Battle for Middle-Earth II work on the Xbox 360, with easy to learn controls and mountains of online options.

The lowdown:
Although most real-time strategy games are designed around using a PC keyboard and mouse they usually never get to appear on a console. With this game you’d never have guessed there was ever a problem with just a few button presses allowing you to direct vast armies and construct huge castles and encampments. Although the game is set during the same time period as the movies the action is focused elsewhere in Middle-Earth, although there’s still plenty of familiar faces. Although it benefits more than most from a HDTV screen the only real problem with the game is a slightly short single player campaign, but that shouldn’t be enough to put you off this rare console strategy treat.

Most exciting moment:
The best way to play the game is undoubtedly online, with five all new and very different game modes. The capture the flag mode works particularly well and ensures that multiplayer games never drag on too long or get too defensive.

Since you ask:
The success of this game will not only influence EA’s decision to bring Command & Conquer 3 to the Xbox 360 but THQ are also considering console versions of their real-time strategy games Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.

The bottom line:
The first proper console based real-time strategy game for years.

Customer Review: awesome!
in a word, awesome, i have had this game for over a year and still dont stop playing it, online is wicked and keeps you amused but even the skirmish is a challenge. the heros is an ace touch and can turn a tide of any war. ive taken on an army of 1000 units with 8 heros and ruined them all. immense game and would recommend it to any command and conquer fan and lord of the rings fan. at the price it is definite value for money.

Customer Review: finnaly a good rts for xbox 360
i havent really played any good rts’s for xbox but i then bought lotr:battle of middle earth 2. unlike many rts’s on consoles such as the xbox this one had finally sorted out the selection links on the controller so its just a quick pull on the right trigger and a small tap on the a button.

you can command many different factions and units.

elves gondor knights and dwarves are the factions under the good side.

and uroki orcs ad coasers of umber are the factions under the bad side.

you can follow the bad or good campaign battleing your way through middle eart with hundreds of men at your command.

like most other rts’s you have gain many resources before you master a massive army.buildings come under

resources, barracks, archery range, forge works, stables, blacksmith, tower, healing shrine, wall hub and castle.

you can build as many of these buildings as you want but only if you have got enough resources.

the graphics are pretty good for a rts and the amount of gameplay that comes with is good too.

with the powers tab on your palentier you can summon creatures, beings or buildings. note you can take to the skies with some beings.

seas can also be conquerd if you have a shipyard. you can build transporst, warships, beserkers and destroy ships in a shipyard.if a mission with buildings already placed on the map you can cpature them e.g watch towers and ship yards. this game is also xbox live enabled so you can take the fight to anyone around the globe. it also comes with the ability to download maps, pictures and themes obviously at a cost.

if you havent got xbox live and dont want to follow the campaign the go to skirmish and set up a small game agaisnt the computer.you can choose the difficulty of all 4 teams and what faction they are and what side their on e.g. all against all, 2 on 2 or 3 on 1.

overall this game is great but can become tedious!!!!!!!!

Neo Se Advanced Controller (Xbox 360) Customer Review: the worst replica controller available
ok, so ive been through a few controllers in my time. Enough said. I bough this from virgin for about the same price as on this site, i have to say it is abvsolute rubbish. The build quality is cheap, it feels too small and the button layout is not anywhere near as good as the official one. Start and back are inaccessible when playing and the triggers and so spring loaded that you have to pull them all the way in to start shooting. The axis sticks are very poor and unresponsive also mine sticks in the up-right position. Very poor, never buying this crap again.
Customer Review: Cheaper, but noticeably worse than the official controller.
I wanted an extra controller for when playing with buddies at home. Since this only happens occasionally, I didn’t want to spend more money than necessary. For the purpose of this review I will compare with the official controller.

Overall feel and design - sits well in my hands, and feels comfortable in general. I don’t like the placement of the back/start buttons though, as it feels a bit awkward reaching them. Still, there is less risk of pressing them by accident like this.

Buttons - feel a bit hard, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I suspect that button-mashing games will make your fingers hurt though. Sensitivy is on par with the official controller.

D-pad - this actually feels more precise. I always had a wee bit of problems with the official D-pad, and especially the diagonals feel imprecise. This one’s better, and should be good for fighting games.

Triggers - firmer and with more resistance than the official controller. Neither better nor worse for any practical purpose. With driving games I actually think it’s easier to maintain exactly the right level of acceleration. If you need to repeatedly press the triggers fast, they can feel a little too tough.

Analog sticks - these feel flip-floppy, imprecise, and not that analog. They are too soft, and movement often becomes all-or-nothing. On shooters this can be compensated by turning overall sensitivity down, and it’s ok. But play any game which recquires precise sequences of movements (trick games, driving, FNR3) and it becomes a major pain. It is a noticeable handicap playing with this controller, which is not how I want my coop or vs games at home.

Conclusions - if a good D-pad is crucial for you, to the point of not caring that much about the sticks, buy it at good value. Otherwise, wait until you can afford a better controller, or you will regret your buy like I did.

Customer Review: As good if not better than M/S wheel
I bought a Logitech wheel for myself after my official 360 wheel went wrong (again!) The performance of wheel compared to x-box simply put, is more comfortable, better built, clamps down to a surface firmer and reacts just as well as the force fed wheel but considerably cheaper. You can also adjust sensitivity of wheel whilst playing unlike the M/S wheel!

Customer Review: Great wheel A++
This wheel is great, Its like a wired version of microsofts wheel. But with this one its better because it doesnt need the game to support its wheel unlike the wireless one. This one uses axial force feedback… Its great! Diffrent sensory modes and everything A*!

Customer Review: Great!!! (From a constant online gamer)
Let me just state one thing first… this headset is a must have. The comparison between the wired headset and the wireless headset has a large quality margin with the wireless headset sounding much much clearer. (I have also conducted an experiment through using the two headsets which talking to some friends and the wireless headset did produce a better sound quality on the receiving end.) The other major advantage of the headset is that its wireless and so you don’t have to have to untagle wires every time you play the Xbox and you can also use a chat pad with ease. Although this is not a major problem… the wired headset crushes my hair (it goes across the head) whilst the wireless headset sits nicely on the chosen ear. The headset is also extremely easy to set up (although I have to admit, the volume control on the wired model is alot more effective) and lasts a reasonably amount of time (normally about a couple of weeks at an average of 10 hours played per week). I would recommend these to anyone and everyone (except those who cannot get onto exbox live :D).
Customer Review: Good clear sound and performance
I was really sceptical about getting this. I had a wireless headset for my old xbox but it was awful so it put my off purchasing anymore when I got the 360 when it came out. After a kind donation of vouchers I decided to take the plunge and buy this as I was sick of the normal wired headsets breaking on me and the wires getting tangled. This headset ( earpiece really ! ) has been far better than I expected and I would now never go back to the scrawny wired headset that you get with the 360. Firstly its comfortable- you get 2 sizes of earpiece fittings. I play my 360 everyday for several hours so I need something that performs well and is comfortable. The sound is great- you can get feedback if the volume is to high but with normal volume the sound is crystal clear even within a few feet away from the box. I have no problems at all with synchronisation . As for the battiers they last about 12 hours so for me this is fine but why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5. Overall Im delighted with it and wish I had bought one sooner, rathering than going through 3 wired headsets !! No more triping over the headset wires ( accidenitly forgetting you have it plugges into the 360 and walking away…. ) and now I have good clean sound so in everyway this is worth it .

This is just rediculuos that on X-BOX 360 the graphics are better there are better levels on it you can xplore Springfield on it. Whilst I bought it on ps2 and I thought I was playing a game from 1995! The ps2 version is so awful that I have thrown it away! On ps2 just looking at it makes you sick! IT’S SO BLUGHRY! Trust me get it on X-BOX or ps3 and you will like it DONT get it on enything else!
Customer Review: Why you little!!!!
Well, after many a dodgy tie-in game, finally a game based upon the Simpsons IP that isn’t a complete failure. It’s not ground breaking either, but a middling, fun game. If you’re a Simpsons fan, then the humour is spot on and the cutscenes superb to watch - as you would expect given that the Simpsons writers themselves were involved in the game. The bane of all platform games (camera angles) makes an occasional appearance, but doesn’t ruin the game completely. It’s not as good as say, Lego Star Wars II, but much better than many platformers. In my opinion, there’s too much emphasis placed upon collecting things - Duff bottle caps, Marge’s saving coupons, Malibu Stacey’s, Krusty stuff - it’s like the developers needed to pad the game out - and they did, because you will complete the story line fairly quickly. The video game cliches are reasonably funny and at least take a different tact on the collectibles approach, but again, they are just padding. So, aside from a collectible overdose, you might be thinking I like this game. As a Simpsons fan, you’re right. I loved the main story, enjoyed it and thought it was a reasonable game. However, there’s a problem with the Simpsons on the 360 which others have also found and been left annoyed by - the autosave mechanism. As you progress, the game autosaves. It does so when you get a collectible, cliche or complete a chunk of the story. However, the autosave is buggy and is known to corrupt the save file. Theory seems to be that it sometimes takes much longer to save than the game indicates, so after the autosave logo disappears, you exit the game and hey presto - your save is corrupted. This is shocking and something EA should have picked up in QA. Unfortunately I fell foul to this bug after completing the main storyline and was about to embark on getting the missing collectibles - what a kick in the teeth!

Customer Review: Great fun, great console
Received a 360 this Christmas and am very happy with it. Set up was very easy, plug into router and I was online no bother. Bought an HDMI cable from cable universe for a few quid (though I’m not sure if it gives a better picture than the included one), and it looks very nice on the Samsung telly. In terms of performance I’ve never had any trouble with it, my machine runs very quiet and stays cool. With the recent price cut it’s a great time to buy a 360, reliability issues seem sorted now and I know that if it were to ever breakdown Microsoft would repair it for me. Importantly compared to the PS3 there is a cracking list of games out for it.
Customer Review: 360 comes of age
When the 360 first came out, I wasn’t blown away. It appeared that developers were struggling with it, as some of the games suffered from juddering framerates as the old Xbox did, such as when cornering in driving games. I was hanging on for a PS3, waiting for more games to come out. 18 months later though and that’s all changed. There’s scores of great games out, the developers are now creating fantastic visuals, and the PS3 hasn’t yet caught up in terms of the amount of good games available. I feel as if I’ve bought my 360 at exactly the right time (March 08) and I’m well happy with it.

Customer Review: Great alternative to the hdmi slot/cable
Last Year I bought an LCD TV/Monitor to replace the old small Standard TV in my bedroom. The main thing I use the screen in my room for is playing my Xbox 360 which is capable of outputting HD graphics. But before I got my new TV I was only playing standard definition graphics through a standard component cables anyway. Unfortunately , my new LCD Widescreen TV/moniter didn’t display the 360s graphics as sharply as my old standard definition TV. The image seemed a lot more blurry than my old TV. Luckily on the same day I decided to buy the official Microsoft HD VGA cable for 360, and it fixed this problem and now all my games are displayed in gorgeous HD and running at 720i/p. The image is alot sharper than through my old standard component cables. This cable is also great alternative if you don’t have the HDMI slot ( alot of the older 360 batch models including the most of the ” Core ” packages , will not have a HDMI slot. ) on your 360 or your TV/moniter. Luckily my new TV/monitor had the VGA input/output socket just like all other PC monitors , so I was able to restore picture sharpness even though both my console and Screen have no support for HDMI. So basically what I’m trying to say , this is the choice for you , if your Display unit or 360 doesn’t have the HDMI slot. Buying this cable have been one of my best spending decisions for my 360 gaming ! You can still enjoy sharp graphics on a widescreen LCD/plasma even without HDMI !
Customer Review: The Cable to own if you want HD gaming
I just recently bought a 32″ HD tv and was unsure to go with this cable or the VGA one. After reading many reviews I opted for the component cable and it works perfectly. The HD quality of the 360 games is amazing. I have also heard that the other third party cables dont have the proper protection so it is most likely best to go with this official microsoft one. If you are after a cable to make the transition to HD gaming this is the one to get. Gears of War and Fight night look like stunning. Cant wait for Mass Effect and Halo 3.

Guitar Hero II with X-Plorer Guitar Controller (Xbox 360) Customer Review: guitar heros
i bought this game for my kids. i did not know i was buying the best game ever, scince xmas my house has been full everyone is totally addicted its the best game ive ever played, and my children i bought one child (11) a xbox 360 9 (i did’nt get it 4 the xbox 360) and the other a ps3 with guitar heros 3 (13) the xbox hasnt been played with all their friends want to play guitar heros.my other two kids love it they are 18 & 22 so this game suits evry age. it might seem costly at first but the amoumt of fun we have all had is well worth the cost. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS GAME NO MATTER WHAT CONSOLE YOU HAVE.
Customer Review: thinking about the whole price??
I bought this game on a impulse buy and it really paid off. being able to rock out to beauties like R.A.T.M - killing in the name and guns and rose - sweet child of mine. what you have to look at is the price is it really worth it?? the answer is always yes! how much does a new game cost these days? around 40 to 50 quid. so for a extra 30 on top you get the guitar aswell. if you can’t play the guitar for real this game will compensate for that. And guitar heroes 3 is almost out and that seems even better. buy now you wont be disappointed.
